Artist
Salim Young
Salim Young (born Laban Kinuthia, 1990) is a Kenyan Mugithi artist, guitarist, and producer who has evolved significantly from his early gospel roots in Subukia into one of the most influential figures in contemporary Kikuyu music.
A core member of the legendary Salim musical family, his career expanded into massive secular success with the viral hit “Indo Njega,” which has surpassed 18 million views on YouTube. Following the tragic passing of his elder brothers Salim Junior (2016) and Mighty Salim (2021), Salim Young emerged as a primary custodian of the family’s Mugithi legacy.
Originally known for gospel projects such as Tondu wi Hinya, he later transitioned successfully into the secular One Man Guitar scene, earning national demand for his technical lead-guitar mastery and emotive vocals. Recent releases including “Favour Ya Ngai” (2020/2025) and “Ciku” highlight his ability to fuse spiritual themes with modern Kikuyu pop rhythms.
Today, Salim Young operates as a high-level performer and producer, collaborates frequently with his sister Sarafina Salim, and maintains a strong digital presence as one of Kenya’s most sought-after Mugithi artists.
